We got way more entries than I was expecting, and y’all have some sharp eyes! Out of the 75 entries, 31 of you managed to spot 10 crouching Gertrude, hidden ogre. When the entries started rolling in, I realized I hadn’t disqualified Page 102’s blatant Gertrude appearance, so that actually made 11 total hiding places! And lucky 13 of you folks managed to find those! (Don’t worry, as long as you found at least 10, I put your name in the pot twice). But skill only gets you so far, then it’s all down to luck. And our lucky winner is…
Alejandro A.!
Alejandro gets the piece of original Margo art featured above!
And for your peace of mind, here are the locations of all the sneaky places Gertrude was lurking:
So that giant ogre has been secretly following Charles and Margo this whole time! How did Margo know? There must have been some clues! Can you find that sneaky ogre mom? Let’s have a contest!
If you’ve got sharp eyes, YOU can spot Gertrude the ogre, shadowing Margo and Charles all throughout their hunt for the missing baby ogre (between pages 74 78 and 102)! Tell me at least 5 panels that you’ve spotted her lurking (page number and panel number) and I’ll enter you in the contest to win an original Margo Maloo drawing. There are ten total panels, but some of them are pretty hard to spot! Hint: remember that ogres have glowing amber eyes and horns!
If you spot every single appearance, I’ll put your name in twice. ;-)
As a civic-minded fella, I thought I might make up a list of comics (print and online) that I could recommend to folks that like Margo Maloo! Meaning… I don’t know! Generally kid-friendly, if not made specifically for kids? The real world colliding with a supernatural/fantastic element? Just a similar feel?
Here’s what I’ve come up with so far:
Online:
Bad Machinery by John Allison
Camp Weedonwantcha by Katie Rice
In Print:
The Secret Science Alliance by Eleanor Davis ;-)
Amulet by Kazu Kibuishi
Kitaro by Shigeru Mizuki
Hilda and the Midnight Giant by Luke Pearson
The Unsinkable Walker Bean by Aaron Renier
Little Vampire by Joann Sfar
Mermin by Joey Weiser
